FAQ
What are custom woven labels?
Custom woven labels are fabric labels where your design is woven from coloured threads on a jacquard loom rather than printed onto the surface. Because the artwork becomes the fabric itself, the label does not crack, peel or fade, and it typically outlasts the garment it is sewn into.
What is the minimum order for custom woven labels?
Five pieces. Most of the industry starts at 500 or 1,000, which forces a new brand to buy years of stock before it knows the design is right. Order steps run 5, 25, 50, 100 and upward to 100,000 and beyond.
How much do custom woven labels cost?
From $47 for 5 labels. The unit price falls substantially at higher quantities, and the full price ladder appears in the design tool as you adjust the amount, so you can compare tiers before ordering. Shipping is free on orders over $200.
What is the difference between woven and printed clothing labels?
A printed label carries ink on the surface of the fabric. A woven label is the fabric, built from coloured thread. Woven lasts far longer and feels more premium, but it cannot reproduce gradients or photographs. Printed handles full colour detail, which is why care labels are printed rather than woven.
What sizes can I order?
Any dimension from 0.4 x 0.4 inches up to 11.8 x 11.8 inches. There are no fixed formats. Neck labels usually land between 1.5 x 1 in and 2.5 x 2 in, while side seam labels are typically 0.5 x 1.5 in to 0.75 x 2 in.
How small can text be on a woven label?
Text weaves cleanly down to about 2 mm, or 0.08 inches, in width. Below that, threads fill in the letterforms and the text stops being legible. If your design carries more than two lines of text, order a larger label rather than shrinking the type.
How many colours can I use?
Up to 8 thread colours in a single design, which covers most logos, wordmarks and icons. Gradients, shadows and photographic detail cannot be woven, so those elements are simplified to solid colours. We flag this before production and show you the result on the proof.
Which fold should I choose?
Centre fold for neck labels and side seams, end fold for a clean neck finish with no raw edge, straight cut for surface and back labels sewn on all four sides, and Manhattan fold where the label needs to be double sided in a seam or hem.
Can I get iron-on woven labels?
Yes. Choose sew-on for maximum durability, iron-on for a heat-activated backing that bonds without stitching, or the combination backing, which irons on and can also be stitched for maximum hold.
Are your woven labels safe for babywear and sensitive skin?
Yes. Every label is OEKO-TEX 100 certified, meaning tested for harmful substances. The damask weave produces a softer surface than looser constructions, and hot cut edges seal the fabric so there is no raw edge to fray or irritate.
Will the labels survive washing?
Yes. Because the design is woven from thread rather than printed on top, there is no ink to crack or fade. The colours hold through washing, tumble drying and daily wear, which is why woven is the standard for garment labels rather than printed.
What file formats do you accept?
Almost all common formats, including JPG, PNG, AI, PSD, INDD and PDF. JPG and PNG upload fastest. Larger design files take longer to upload but are handled the same way, and our team reviews every design before it goes to the loom.
How long does production take?
Eight to twelve business days plus shipping as standard, or four to eight business days with rush production. The clock starts when your order enters production, not at the moment you place it, because our design team checks your artwork first.
Can I see my label before I order?
Yes. Every design produces a free digital proof as a PDF at scale 1:1. Print it at actual size and hold it against the garment before ordering. This is the quickest way to catch text that is too small or a size that does not suit the placement.
