Custom hang tags printed in full color

Custom hang tags are the last thing a customer reads before they decide. It carries your price, your size, your barcode and, if you use it properly, the reason someone should pay what you are asking.

Our custom hang tags are printed in full color on 300 gsm solid matte cardstock, in a single standard size of 2.01 x 3.07 inches. Print one side or both. Add a cord or leave it off. Order from 100 tags for $63 and download a free proof at actual size before anything goes to press.

What goes on a hang tag

Most brands use the front for identity and the back for information. If you are selling into retail or wholesale rather than direct to consumer, the back is not optional, because a buyer will ask for it.

Element Where it usually goes Why it earns the space
Logo and brand name Front The tag is often the only branded surface visible on a rail
Price Front or back Printed price tags read as considered rather than improvised
Size and colorway Front Lets a customer find their size without unfolding the garment
Barcode or UPC Back Required by most retailers and wholesale accounts before they will stock you
Fiber content and care Back Useful, but the sewn-in label is what has to carry it legally
QR code Back Sizing guide, care guide, product registration, or a link to the rest of the range
Brand story Back The one place a customer will actually read two sentences about you

One thing worth being clear about: a hang tag is removed before the garment is worn, so it is not the right home for legally required care and content information. That belongs on a sewn-in label. Our satin care labels cover that side of it.

Designing for the size

2.01 x 3.07 inches sits in the standard range for clothing hang tags and swing tags, large enough to be read across a shop floor and small enough not to swamp a folded garment or get in the way on a rail.

Three things to plan around:

  • Keep the top clear. The drill hole center sits 8 mm from the top edge. Anything you place in that band will be punched through or crowded by the cord.
  • Stay inside the safe area. The design tool shows a dashed guide. Text or logos outside it risk being trimmed, since no two sheets cut in exactly the same place.
  • Decide early whether you need the back. Double sided costs slightly more, but it is the difference between a price tag and a piece of packaging. If you need a barcode, you need the back.

Barcodes and QR codes

If you are going into retail or wholesale, the barcode on the hang tag is what gets you through the door. Two practical points.

Print barcodes as pure black on a white background at the largest size your layout allows, and leave clear space either side. Colored, reversed or shrunken barcodes are the single most common reason a tag fails at the till.

Then test it. Your free proof prints at scale 1:1, so you can print the sheet, scan the barcode and scan the QR code with a phone before you commit to a run of a thousand. This takes two minutes and it is the cheapest quality check available to you.

Cords

Cords are optional and priced separately. They come in black or white, 17 cm long, with a fixing closure at the ends so you can attach them by hand without a tagging gun.

Tags with string are shipped loose rather than pre-attached. That is deliberate: brands usually want to tag at the point of packing rather than receive a box of pre-strung tags that tangle. If you would rather use your own string, safety pins, ribbon or a plastic tagging barb, the 3 mm hole takes all of them.

Who orders custom hang tags

  • Clothing brands preparing a collection for retail, where printed clothing hang tags replace handwritten or stickered pricing
  • Handmade sellers and Etsy shops who need product tags that make a small run look like a considered line
  • Jewelry and accessory designers using the tag as the display card as well as the price tag
  • Gift and homeware brands using swing tags on packaging, hampers and seasonal ranges
  • Pop-ups, markets and events where a clean tag does the work a shopfront would normally do
  • Wholesale suppliers who need barcoded garment tags before a stockist will take the order

Need a different size or shape?

We produce custom hang tags in one standard size, which is what keeps the minimum at 100 tags. If your project needs a different size, a custom shape, a different stock or a special finish, request a quote and we will price it as a custom run.

Finish the garment properly by pairing them with woven brand labels for the neck and printed care labels for the seam.

FAQ

What is the minimum order for custom hang tags?

The minimum is 100 tags. From there you can order any quantity upward, with volume pricing shown in the design tool as you change the amount. Each separate design counts as its own order and carries its own minimum of 100.

How much do custom hang tags cost?

Pricing for custom printed hang tags starts at $63 for 100 tags printed on one side. Double sided printing adds a small surcharge, and cords are priced separately. The full price ladder appears in the design tool as you adjust quantity, so you can compare tiers before ordering.

What size are your hang tags?

One standard size: 2.01 x 3.07 inches, roughly 51 x 78 mm. It sits in the normal range for apparel hang tags. If you need a different size or a custom shape, request a quote and we will price it as a custom run.

What paper are the tags printed on?

300 gsm solid matte cardstock. It is thick enough to hold its shape through shipping, handling and a busy shop floor without curling or creasing, and the matte surface keeps text legible under retail lighting rather than throwing glare.

Can I print on both sides?

Yes. Single sided is the base price and double sided costs slightly more. Most brands put the logo and price on the front and use the back for barcode, size, care information, QR code or a short brand story.

Do the tags come with string attached?

Cords are optional and supplied loose rather than pre-attached, so you can tag at the point of packing. They are 17 cm, available in black or white, and have a fixing closure at the ends for attaching by hand.

Is there a hole for the string?

Yes. Every tag comes with a 3 mm hole pre-drilled at the top center, with the hole center 8 mm from the top edge. It takes our cords, your own string or ribbon, a safety pin, or a standard plastic tagging barb.

Can I put a barcode on my hang tag?

Yes, and most brands selling into retail should. Place it on the back, print it black on white at the largest size your layout allows, and leave clear space either side. Scan it from the free 1:1 proof before you order.

Can I add a QR code?

Yes. QR codes are commonly used to link to a size guide, a care guide, product registration or the rest of your collection. Print it as large as the layout allows and scan it from your proof at actual size to confirm it reads reliably.

How long does production take?

Standard production is 6 to 10 business days plus shipping. Rush production runs in 3 to 5 business days plus shipping. Production starts once you approve your proof, not when you place the order.

Can I see the tag before I order?

Yes. Every design comes with a free PDF proof at scale 1:1. Print it, cut it out, hold it against the garment and scan any codes on it. This is the fastest way to catch a layout problem before it is multiplied by a thousand.

Do you offer other finishes like foil or lamination?

Not as a standard option. Our tags are matte 300 gsm, which keeps the minimum low and the price predictable. For foil, lamination, custom shapes or alternative stocks, request a quote and we will price it as a custom project.
