Custom biker patches for vests, cuts and jackets
Custom biker patches are embroidered patches made to your own artwork for motorcycle vests, cuts and riding jackets. Super Label Store produces them in any outline from 1.5 to 9 inches, from 10 pieces per design, with sew-on backing as the standard for leather and denim.
What makes this category different is that a biker patch is rarely one patch. A cut usually carries a set: a top rocker, a centre piece and a bottom rocker, sometimes with side patches and a chest patch alongside it. That means several designs, each with its own minimum, and the pieces have to line up as a set rather than work individually. Add to that the surface, because leather and heavy denim rule out most backings, and the size ceiling, which decides whether your artwork fits at all. The sections below work through each of those in the order you need to decide them.
Start with the size limit, because it is the thing most likely to affect your plans. Our largest patch is 9 inches. That covers chapter patches, rockers, chest patches and most single-piece designs comfortably. It does not cover a full-size traditional back patch, which is often 10 to 12 inches or more. If that is what you need, request a quote and we will look at it as a custom run rather than have you find out at checkout.

Inspiring custom biker patches
The parts of a back patch set
Motorcycle patches follow a structure that other categories do not, and the vocabulary is worth getting right before you design.
- Top rocker. The curved strip across the top, usually carrying the club or group name.
- Centre patch. The main emblem in the middle. The single largest piece and the one carrying the artwork.
- Bottom rocker. The curved strip beneath, traditionally carrying the territory, chapter or location.
- Side and chest patches. Smaller pieces on the front of the vest: name, rank, role, chapter, memorial or event patches.
Each of those is a separate design and carries its own minimum of 10 pieces. A three-piece set is therefore three orders of at least 10 each, not one order of 30. That is a production reality rather than a policy: the machine has to be set up separately for each design.
Before you order a three-piece set
Worth stating plainly, because this category has a culture around it that most suppliers ignore.
A full three-piece set, meaning top rocker, centre patch and bottom rocker together, carries specific meaning in motorcycle club culture. It traditionally indicates a chartered club with territory, and in many regions wearing one without the standing to do so is taken seriously by the clubs in that area.
Riding clubs, charity groups, veteran associations and social riding groups more commonly use a single-piece patch, or a centre patch with one rocker, precisely to avoid that signal. If you are unsure, ask the established clubs in your region before you order rather than after.
We produce what you supply and make no judgement about it. This is practical information, not a rule, and it is the kind of thing worth knowing before you have 30 patches sewn onto vests.

Sizing for a vest
Super Label Store produces biker patches from 1.5 to 9 inches. These are the sizes ordered most:
- Centre patch: 6 to 9 inches. The main emblem. At this size intricate artwork and 100% coverage genuinely pay off.
- Rocker: up to 9 inches wide, 2 to 3 inches tall. Curved strips, text only. Heat Cut is essential here because a curve with pointed ends cannot be overlocked cleanly.
- Chest patch: 3 to 4 inches. Name, rank, role or chapter.
- Name strip: around 1 x 4 inches. Text only, bold capitals.
- Small side patch: 2 to 3 inches. Event, memorial, anniversary or support patches.
Measure the panel on the actual vest before you commit. Vest cuts vary a lot between manufacturers, and a centre patch sized to the wrong back panel either crowds the rockers or leaves an awkward gap.
Sew-on, because vests are leather and denim
Sew-on is the right backing for almost every biker patch, and the reason is the material.
- Leather cannot be ironed. The heat an adhesive backing needs will scorch, shrink or permanently mark the hide. Never iron a patch onto a leather cut.
- Heavy denim takes stitching better than adhesive. Iron-on can hold on denim, but a vest gets worn hard, and the bond softens over time.
- A back patch is too large for adhesive to hold reliably. The bigger the patch, the more the edges lift.
Designing for thread
Biker artwork tends to be detailed: skulls, wings, banners, scrollwork, lettering with outlines. Four constraints decide whether it reproduces.
- Text needs 3.5 to 4 mm of width per character. On a rocker this is rarely a problem because they are wide. On a 3 inch chest patch, a long chapter name is.
- Fine linework needs simplifying. Detailed scrollwork and shading drawn for print becomes a smudge in thread. Heavier lines and solid shapes hold.
- Gradients and shadows cannot be embroidered. They become solid blocks of colour, so design flat or expect the proof to simplify them.
- Up to 9 colors are included, 15 is the maximum. Complex emblems sometimes need reducing, and the proof shows you exactly how.
Heat Cut is usually the right edge for this category. Rockers are curved with pointed ends, and centre patches are often irregular outlines. A Merrow Border is around 5 mm wide and can only follow simple shapes, so it suits a plain shield or circle rather than a wing or a rocker.
For a shaped patch, upload a PNG with a transparent background so the outline follows your artwork rather than being read as a rectangle. If club colors have to be exact, put your Pantone or other colour codes in the comments field. Metallic gold and silver are available as a premium option, which suits scrollwork and lettering.

Two proofs before a set goes into production
Digital Proof: free, under the order button. Print at 1:1 on A4, cut it out and lay it on the vest. For a three-piece set this is the only reliable way to check that the rockers and centre patch actually fit together on the back panel before any of them are stitched.
Photo Proof: free on embroidery patches. Tick it during ordering at no extra cost and Super Label Store will produce one sample patch, photograph it and send it for approval before the rest of the run starts. Worth taking on a centre patch, where the artwork is most detailed and the piece is most visible.
It does extend the lead time, because production waits for your response. Click Approve on the approval page rather than emailing: approvals from the page reach the production floor immediately, emails have to be processed by a person first.
A back patch set is produced the same way as any other order: the same twill, the same polyester thread, the same coverage and border options. The full specification is on our custom embroidery patches page.

Ordering and quantities
Custom biker patches at Super Label Store start at 10 pieces per design, at $97. The unit price falls automatically as quantities rise, and from 100 pieces you can enter your own quantity in increments of 10.
Remember that each rocker and each patch in a set is its own design with its own minimum. For a full set across a chapter, request a quote and we will price the run directly, which is almost always better than ordering the pieces separately.
We always do our utmost to meet the production time you choose. In exceptional cases production can be delayed by circumstances outside our control. If we miss a rush deadline, the $85 rush fee is refunded.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are custom biker patches?
Custom biker patches are embroidered patches made to your own artwork for motorcycle vests, cuts and riding jackets. They include centre patches, top and bottom rockers, chest patches, name strips and event patches.
How large can a back patch be?
Up to 9 inches at Super Label Store. That covers chapter patches, rockers and most single-piece designs, but not a full-size traditional back patch of 10 to 12 inches or more. For those, request a quote and we will look at it as a custom run.
What is the minimum order for biker patches?
Ten pieces per design. Each rocker and each patch in a set counts as its own design, so a three-piece set is three orders of at least 10 rather than one order of 30.
How much do custom biker patches cost?
Custom biker patches at Super Label Store start at $97 for 10 pieces. Size, quantity, coverage and colour count drive the price, and the design tool updates as you change each option.
Can I iron a patch onto a leather vest?
No. The heat an adhesive backing needs will scorch, shrink or permanently mark leather. Sew-on is the correct backing for leather and for heavy denim. Most leather workers and alteration shops will sew a patch onto a vest for a modest fee.
What is a top rocker and a bottom rocker?
Rockers are the curved strips above and below a centre patch. The top rocker traditionally carries the club or group name, and the bottom rocker the territory, chapter or location. Each is a separate design with its own minimum.
Should our group order a three-piece set?
A full three-piece set carries specific meaning in motorcycle club culture and traditionally indicates a chartered club with territory. Riding clubs, charity groups and social riding groups more often use a single-piece patch or a centre patch with one rocker. Ask the established clubs in your region if you are unsure.
Merrow Border or Heat Cut on a rocker?
Heat Cut. A rocker is a curve with pointed ends, and an overlock machine cannot follow that shape cleanly. Heat Cut follows your exact outline with a sharp sealed edge. A Merrow Border suits simple shapes such as shields and circles.
Can you reproduce our existing club patch?
Yes, where you have the right to order it. Send a photograph, a scan or a drawing and the Super Label Store design team converts it into a production file at no cost. A PNG with a transparent background gives the best result for a shaped patch.
How long does production take?
Standard production at Super Label Store is 8 to 12 business days plus shipping, counted from your approval of the proof rather than from the order date. Rush is 4 to 8 business days for $85 per design, available from 200 pieces.
